ERA GROUP TO MARK ENTRY OF AW609 TILTROTOR INTO THE US COMMERCIAL MARKET.

  • Under the agreement, Era will take delivery of two AW609s plus training package in 2020
  • Era’s AW609s will be used to perform offshore/utility, VIP, EMS, and SAR missions
  • Requirements for approximately 50 AW609s have been expressed by operators worldwide to date

Leonardo and Era Group (Era) have announced today the signing of a landmark agreement that would launch the AW609 into service in the US commercial market and demonstrate its capabilities on a wider scale.

Building upon their previous efforts in helping to mature the design, development and supportability of the AW609, Era will take delivery of two aircraft in 2020 plus a dedicated training package. These aircraft, in a 9 passenger utility configuration, will be used for numerous applications, including offshore/utility, VIP, EMS, and SAR missions in USA.

“Era Group’s decision to operate the AW609 marks a new milestone in the program and represents a major step forward in bringing this groundbreaking aircraft to market,” said Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director of Leonardo Helicopters. “A longtime partner of Leonardo as our largest civil customer, Era’s forward-thinking approach to the future of aviation leverages investments in vertical lift technologies that will change the way the world flies.”

“As we celebrate our 70th year in service, we continue to scan the horizon for the technology in aviation that will allow us to continue to serve our customers and communities in an ever-changing world,” said Chris Bradshaw, CEO of Era Group, Inc. “We see the AW609 as part of our future and look forward to building upon the collaboration with Leonardo as Era prepares to launch commercial tiltrotor operations across the diverse missions we operates.”

The unique flight characteristics of the AW609 combine the benefits of a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft into one type. The AW609 can take off and land vertically, flying above adverse weather conditions with up to nine people in comfort in a pressurized cabin at twice the speed and range typical of helicopters, representing the next generation of aircraft transport. With the AW609 Leonardo is opening up new possibilities for a wide range of missions including search and rescue, VIP/corporate transport, emergency medical services, offshore transport, and homeland security.

Development leverages the full scope of Leonardo’s global engineering and industrial capabilities with initial deliveries to take place from the company’s Philadelphia assembly line. Requirements for approximately 50 AW609s have been expressed by operators worldwide to date.

AVIATION PIONEER BELL HELICOPTER REBRANDS TO “BELL”, REFLECTING EXPANDED VISION FOR THE FUTURE.

INDUSTRY LEADER IN ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION MODERNIZES ITS IDENTITY.

Fort Worth, Texas (February 22, 2018)Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company and major global aircraft manufacturer, revealed today it has rebranded to be known as simply “Bell.” The new brand strategy and modernized logo are rooted in the company’s focus on innovation and customer experience. Bell will roll out the rebrand over the next year.

“BELL HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT MORE THAN JUST HELICOPTERS. OUR TEAM HAS SPENT THE PAST 80 YEARS PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF FLIGHT, AND NOW WE WILL ACCURATELY REFLECT THAT QUEST,” SAID PRESIDENT AND CEO MITCH SNYDER. “THE LOOK CAPTURES OUR INNOVATIVE SPIRIT WITHOUT DETRACTING FROM OUR CORE MISSION OF PROVIDING SAFE AND UNSURPASSED EXPERIENCES TO OUR CUSTOMERS.”

The most notable update, aside from its brand name change, is a new logo. Bell wanted to highlight the tenacious pursuit of flight with its depiction of a dragonfly, while grounding the logo with a shield to illustrate the company’s stellar reputation in reliability and quality. “The dragonfly can take off and land wherever it wants, fly quickly and efficiently in any direction, and hover at will. It represents the mastery of flight, something Bell strives to achieve,” added Snyder.

Bell teamed up with FutureBrand, a global strategic brand and design consultancy, to complete its first rebranding since Textron Inc. purchased the defense businesses of Bell Aircraft Corporation in 1960 some of which became Bell Helicopter. The process, which began in the summer of 2017, helped refocus the company’s communications to more accurately reflect how employees go above and beyond to bring the experience of flight to customers.
“This rebrand is not just about a new logo,” said Snyder. “We chose to do this because we see ourselves at the forefront of technology. We believe this refresh embodies the idea that we can make the vertical dimension more accessible.”

BLR Aerospace Announces First H125 FastFin System Factory Installation.

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 26, 2018 – BLR Aerospace today announced that the first factory installation of an Airbus Helicopters H125 FastFin® System has been completed and the aircraft will be delivered in June to Heli-Austria. The company also announced that 25 Airbus Helicopters Customer Centers worldwide have been authorized to sell and install the FastFin System.

Heli-Austria is a long-time FastFin System supporter operating FastFin Systems on its H125 and Bell medium helicopters, according to Roy Knaus, President of Heli-Austria. “The H125 Systems we are already flying with are operating very well,” Knaus said. Heli-Austria aircraft routinely operate between 7,000 and 10,000 feet but sometimes reach altitudes of 13,000 feet performing a range of vertical reference work, including logging and construction. “FastFin is beneficial in all regimes, but we consider it essential for high-altitude operations,” Knaus said.

Thirty H125 FastFin Systems have been sold to date and are operating in seven countries. More than 1,100 FastFin Systems are flying worldwide.

“We are excited to work with BLR to offer our H125 customers worldwide the FastFin System for both factory installation and retrofit,” said Axel Aloccio, head of the H125/H130 program at Airbus Helicopters. “The FastFin system enhances the H125 performance in hot and high conditions and further reinforces the superiority of the H125 in the single-engine helicopter market.”

“We are pleased to partner with Airbus Helicopters and Heli-Austria to make these milestones possible,” said BLR President Mike Carpenter. “It’s gratifying to see the growing acceptance of FastFin-equipped aircraft around the world,” he said.

The H125 FastFin System uses advanced airflow management to increase the effectiveness of the H125 anti-torque system for significant increases to useful load and aircraft stability, especially in hot/high conditions. Benefits include a useful load increase up to 120 pounds and a 10 percent improvement in pedal margins.

BLR will exhibit its FastFin System in Exhibit C2150 during HAI HELI-EXPO 2018 Feb. 27 – March 1 in Las Vegas.

HELI-EXPO 2018 – PRESS RELEASE – 21 February 2018

The H160 lands in Las Vegas, kicking off Airbus’ presence at Heli-Expo. H160 prototype, H145, H135 and H125 alongside a full range of updated HCare digital solutions.

Las Vegas, USA, 21 February 2018 – The H160 prototype has landed in Las Vegas and will be headlining Airbus Helicopters’ presence for the first time ever at an international airshow at this year’s Heli-Expo from 27 Feb – 1 March at the Las Vegas convention centre.

Showgoers will be able see for themselves the #H160ReasonsWhy the H160 is raising the bar in the industry. “We are proud to be bringing the H160 prototype to Heli-Expo for the first time”, said Ben Bridge, Executive Vice President for Global Business. “This aircraft is emblematic of the company’s transformation in every domain from concept and design, to the revamped industrial production model enabling enhanced industrial maturity from entry into service, and capitalizing on key digital technologies for greater customer support and maintenance.

All of this has been done with our customers’ priorities in mind, and we are excited that they will get to experience the H160 shortly with the US demo tour kicking off after the show,” he added. Maintenance demos on the H160 will be performed daily to show how maintenance has been optimized and facilitated thanks to its unique design and new processes like the “Operator Zero” campaign.

Alongside the second prototype of the H160, on booth N1915, Airbus Helicopters will be displaying its HGeneration range of mission enablers including HCare services that allow customers to focus on their operations safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. On display will be an H125 in a law enforcement configuration, the H135 equipped with Helionix, and the H145 in a private and business aviation configuration. In its on-going commitment to innovation and the future of flight, Airbus Helicopters is incorporating new digital and electrical technologies into products and services alike. A great example of this is CityAirbus, Airbus’ self-piloted battery powered aircraft designed with the latest safety standards to transport four passengers for inner-city flights.

A mock-up of this innovative project will be showcased at Heli-Expo as the project team is busy maturing technologies that will allow a demonstrator to fly at the end of this year. However Urban Air Mobility for Airbus Helicopters does not stop at the aircraft itself and as part of its new customer services offer, Airbus Helicopters intends to provide travellers with on-demand helicopter services to escape urban congestion by taking to the skies, as the recently integrated Voom project exemplifies.
