PRESS RELEASE – Dallas, TX (March 9, 2022)

Safran Helicopter Engines and Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today a collaboration initiative to explore technical performance and economic impacts of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on the Arrius 2R-powered Bell 505.

A single, dedicated Bell 505 aircraft will conduct flights solely with the use of blended SAF. Both Bell and Safran Helicopter Engines will evaluate engine and aircraft performance data to better assess the collateral benefits associated with the incorporation of SAF, a significant tool being used to reach industry carbon reduction objectives.

Bruno Bellanger, executive vice president, Programs, Safran Helicopter Engines said: “We strongly believe in SAF, as it contributes to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. As all our helicopter engines, the Arrius 2R, is already certified to operate on up to 50% SAF, and we are fully ready to assist all Bell 505 operators worldwide in their transition from conventional fossil fuels to SAF”.

“Bell has championed the usage of SAF as one of our many critical efforts in achieving carbon emission reductions in our rotorcraft operations,” said Doug May, vice president of Customer Experience. “We look forward to working with Safran Helicopter Engines to gain a comprehensive understanding of SAF incorporation that will inform future aircraft technology and operations and ultimately support greener aviation practices.”

With all its engine range already certified to operate on up to 50% SAF, Safran objective is to certify in the coming years the use of 100% SAF, which can potentially result in carbon lifecycle emissions reductions by up to 80%. In 2021, Safran conducted ground test campaign for a Makila 2 running on 100% SAF, and followed this with successful flight tests.

Safran Helicopter Engines is strongly committed to reducing carbon emissions at its sites worldwide by incorporating SAF at all its test benches. Since last June, the manufacturer has been using it at every site in France, initially at a level of 10% of total aviation fuel usage, with a target of 50% by 2025. It has also recently deployed SAF to its UK facility at Fareham.

PRESS RELEASE – Fort Worth, TX, 11 May 2021

Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, announced today the 300th Bell 505 Jet Ranger X delivery to the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). The first Bell 505 was delivered in 2017, and today there are 300 aircraft in operation across six continents, with customers logging more than 70,000 global fleet hours.

“The Bell 505 is one of Bell’s fastest growing commercial programs to date, surpassing several significant milestones since its inception,” said Michael Thacker, Executive Vice President, Innovation and Commercial Business. “As we continue to see interest for the aircraft in Public Safety, Utility and Corporate transport, Bell has invested in new products and technologies to expand the Bell 505’s capabilities.”

The latest Bell 505 platform advancements include the Garmin G1000H NXi avionics suite, Flight Stream, Autopilot, Lightweight EMS interior, Bell Public Safety configuration, Pulselite, FliteStep, LHS Baggage Door and Moveable Ballast.

“We are proud to take delivery of the 300th Bell 505 and expand our fleet capabilities.” said Lt. Col. Brian Lundy, commanding officer of the JDF Air Wing. “JDF and Bell have a strong history together and today’s delivery marks another milestone in our relationship.” The Force’s sixth Bell 505 will support Public Safety missions to serve the citizens of Jamaica and be operated by its Caribbean Military Aviation School (CMAS) to train the international rotorcraft pilots of tomorrow.

With a speed of 125 knots (232 km/h) and useful load of 1,500 pounds (680 kg), the Bell 505 is Bell’s newest five-seat aircraft designed for safety, efficiency and reliability using advanced avionics technology. Its similarities with the Bell 429 platform allow for a smooth pilot transition as JDF begins training operations. With a Garmin G1000, the platform shares similar avionics with JDF’s Fixed Wing Trainer aircraft and reduces pilot workload, enhancing the students’ learning experience.

Elicompany, an operator based in central and northern Italy, recognizes the benefits of owning and operating a Bell 505, evident through its 1000 flight hours in just 10 months. This continuous aircraft usage made the Italian company one of the top 10 high time 505 operators in the world – a true testament to our customer’s love for the platform.

Elicompany was founded in 1979 by its current CEO Calisto Forghieri. For more than 40 years, the operator has been known for its experience and knowledge in the helicopter industry. Their fleet includes more members of the Bell family with a Bell 427, Bell 407GX/GXP, and Bell 206. PRESS RELEASE – 22 February 2018

AVIATION PIONEER BELL HELICOPTER REBRANDS TO “BELL”, REFLECTING EXPANDED VISION FOR THE FUTURE.

INDUSTRY LEADER IN ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION MODERNIZES ITS IDENTITY.

Fort Worth, Texas (February 22, 2018)Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company and major global aircraft manufacturer, revealed today it has rebranded to be known as simply “Bell.” The new brand strategy and modernized logo are rooted in the company’s focus on innovation and customer experience. Bell will roll out the rebrand over the next year.

“BELL HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT MORE THAN JUST HELICOPTERS. OUR TEAM HAS SPENT THE PAST 80 YEARS PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF FLIGHT, AND NOW WE WILL ACCURATELY REFLECT THAT QUEST,” SAID PRESIDENT AND CEO MITCH SNYDER. “THE LOOK CAPTURES OUR INNOVATIVE SPIRIT WITHOUT DETRACTING FROM OUR CORE MISSION OF PROVIDING SAFE AND UNSURPASSED EXPERIENCES TO OUR CUSTOMERS.”

The most notable update, aside from its brand name change, is a new logo. Bell wanted to highlight the tenacious pursuit of flight with its depiction of a dragonfly, while grounding the logo with a shield to illustrate the company’s stellar reputation in reliability and quality. “The dragonfly can take off and land wherever it wants, fly quickly and efficiently in any direction, and hover at will. It represents the mastery of flight, something Bell strives to achieve,” added Snyder.

Bell teamed up with FutureBrand, a global strategic brand and design consultancy, to complete its first rebranding since Textron Inc. purchased the defense businesses of Bell Aircraft Corporation in 1960 some of which became Bell Helicopter. The process, which began in the summer of 2017, helped refocus the company’s communications to more accurately reflect how employees go above and beyond to bring the experience of flight to customers.
“This rebrand is not just about a new logo,” said Snyder. “We chose to do this because we see ourselves at the forefront of technology. We believe this refresh embodies the idea that we can make the vertical dimension more accessible.”
